ARLINGTON, VA — A 45-year-old is facing two malicious wounding charges in connection to a brawl that took place late Friday afternoon in Rosslyn, according to Arlington County Police.

Officers responded around 5:25 p.m. to 18th Street North. at North Quinn Street for the report of a fight, according to police.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a woman was outside a residential building when a man she knew walked up and started talking to her. The man then waved a knife and verbally threatened her, according to police.

Another man tried to intervene, but he was chased by the man with the knife, who returned to the scene and was arrested by police, according to the incident report. Investigators recovered the knife and no injuries were reported.

ACPD charged 45-year-old Thomas McLachlan of an undetermined address with two attempted malicious wounding charges and public intoxication, police reported.

McLachlan was arraigned in Arlington General District Court on Monday morning and is scheduled to return for a bond hearing on Tuesday, according to court documents. His preliminary hearing is set for May 9.

The two attempted malicious wounding charges are Class 5 felonies, which carry a potential penalty of imprisonment for a minimum of one year and a maximum of 10 years, according to the Code of Virginia. At the discretion of the jury or the court trying a case without jury, a defendant may face confinement for not more than 12 months and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both.
