Man Who Stabbed Toddler, Woman Outside Pentagon City Business Arrested: Police

The attack, which occurred on a public sidewalk, was domestic in nature and the victims were taken to hospitals, according to police.

ARLINGTON COUNTY, VA — A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged after attacking a woman and a toddler with a knife outside a business in Pentagon City, according to police.

Leonardo Reyes is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, contributing to the delinquency of a child and child abuse, police said, noting the stabbing was a domestic incident.

The woman was holding the toddler and walking at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Army Navy Drive, near a Target and a Harris Teeter, when Reyes approached, stabbed the victims with a knife, and fled on foot, according to police. A second child at the scene was not injured, police said.

The woman and the young girl suffered lacerations and were taken to hospitals, police said, adding the woman was in critical but stable condition and the toddler was in stable condition.

Officers saw Reyes enter a parking garage as they arrived and found him under a parked vehicle, according to police, who said he struggled when they tried to take him into custody and was detained with the help of a K-9.

Reyes is being held without bond in Arlington County jail, police said.
