ARLINGTON, VA -- Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember the servicemen and women who have given their lives for their county. It also marks the unofficial start of summer, with many pools and beaches opening on Memorial Day weekend. However, since it is a national holiday, schools and government offices will be closed on Monday, May 27.

Transportation

  • ART–ART 41, 42, 43, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate.
  • STAR The STAR Call Center will be closed and standing orders will not be provided. Please call beforehand to request a trip on the holiday or the day after.
  • Metrorail & Metrobus Schedule

  • Trash/Recycling/Yard Waste Curbside Routes – Regular schedule

Metro: The system will open at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m., and trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. Off-peak fares will be in effect throughout the day, and parking at Metrorail facilities is free. Keep in mind that six Blue and Yellow line stations south of Reagan National Airport will be closed for station improvements, and those stations won't reopen until Sept. 8.

Several businesses and restaurants will remain open on Memorial Day, although some may have limited hours due to the holiday. If you are heading out, you may want to call the business and check their hours for Monday. Some businesses will be offering discounts to veterans or active-duty military, so if you've served, bring your military ID with you.
