Music Playlist For 2022 Holidays Released By Head Of Arlington Library

Arlington Public Library Director Diane Kresh has put together a holiday playlist to share with the public called "Too Cool for Yule 2022."

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington Public Library Director Diane Kresh has a tradition of creating music playlists for the holiday season.

The year, Kresh has put together a new holiday playlist to share with the public called “Too Cool for Yule 2022.”

“This annual tradition is deeply personal. It reminds me of the hundreds (thousands?) of hours I’ve spent over the years making mixtapes for friends, siblings, work colleagues, and often, just for me,” Kresh wrote in a blog post. “Granted, with the likes of Spotify and iTunes, it’s a lot easier these days to put together a mixtape.”

Kresh describes putting together mixtapes as an “art” and “like all art, holiday mixtapes tell a story.” The best holiday mixtapes contain an eclectic blend of edgy, whimsical, happy, sad, silly, and sappy songs, she said.

For the 2022 playlist, Kresh said she had fun putting it together. "And I hope you have fun listening,” she said.

Every year, Kresh said she honors musicians who have died over the past year. This year, she highlights the music of Loretta Lynn, Ronnie Spector and Jerry Lee Lewis. She also closes each list with a song she hopes speaks to many people. This year’s selection is Woody Guthrie’s "This Land" sung by the Staple Singers.
