ARLINGTON, VA — Today is National Pie Day, a day to celebrate one of the most quintessential desserts in the U.S.

The holiday is celebrated every year on January 23 and was created by The American Pie Council in 1986.

According to The American Pie Council, "National Pie Day provides an opportunity for family and friends to get together, bake, eat and enjoy their favorite pies."
