New Name For Washington-Lee High School Chosen: Report
The Arlington School Board reportedly has chosen a new name for Washington-Lee High School.

ARLINGTON, VA -- Washington-Lee High School will be officially renamed Washington-Liberty High School, according to a report.
ARLnow reports that the Arlington School Board voted Thursday night on the new name, months after deciding to strip Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee's name from the school.
Other names had been suggested for the school, with a committee recommending that the name "Washington-Loving" be chosen to honor Richard and Mildred Loving, the couple who successfully challenged Virginia's ban on interracial marriage decades ago.

However, a 3-2 majority of the Board went for "Liberty," ARLnow reported.
Washington-Lee has had the same name since 1925 when it opened. The school's logo features both a picture of George Washington and Lee, who led the Confederate Army during the Civil War. In Charlottesville, it was the proposal to remove the statue of Robert E. Lee that sparked the violent protests by white supremacists that would culminate in a man driving a car into a group of left-wing activists, killing a woman and injuring others.
