ARLINGTON, VA — The driver who crashed into Ireland’s Four Courts in August, seriously injuring several people and causing extensive damage to the restaurant and bar, will not face charges, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Because its investigation concluded the driver of the ride-share vehicle “experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash,” no charges will be brought against the driver, police said in an update Wednesday.

“Following consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, criminal charges will not be sought against the driver,” police said.

The ride-share driver was driving north on N. Courthouse Road, when he crashed directly into the front of Ireland’s Four Courts during a Friday happy hour.

Shortly after the crash, his vehicle caught fire, causing a fire within the restaurant. Numerous injuries were reported on the scene. Nine patients were transported to area hospitals, according to police.

The driver had a passenger at the time of the incident. The driver and passenger were among those transported to area hospitals with injuries, police said.

Three Ireland’s Four Courts customers who were hospitalized with serious, potentially life-threatening injuries caused by the driver were able to leave the hospital about a month ago, ARLnow reported Wednesday.

A total of 15 people were injured from the crash and related fire.

Ireland's Four Courts' general manger told ARLnow in late September he did not know when the restaurant and bar might reopen.
