NoVA Home Values Keep Climbing: See List By County, City

VIRGINIA — The average home value in Northern Virginia continued to climb in May with some counties and cities reporting nearly 8 percent spikes compared to the same time last year, according to new data that revealed where buying a home could cost you more.

Data compiled by the real estate website Zillow showed the typical home value in Virginia in May 2024 was $393,527, a 6 percent increase from May 2023 and higher than the national average of $360,681.

However, the cost of a home in Northern Virginia remains much higher than the state or national averages.

Fairfax City topped the list of Northern Virginia counties and cities where home prices increased the most, according to the data, followed by Fairfax County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park.

In Fairfax City and Fairfax County, home values increased by nearly 8 percent compared to May 2023, while the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park saw values increase by more than 7 percent.

The city of Alexandria saw the smallest increase at 4.7 percent.

Currently, the most expensive homes in Northern Virginia are located in the city of Falls Church, where home values average more than $1.1 million. Arlington County followed at $813,000.

Also topping the list were Fairfax City, as well as Fairfax and Loudoun counties, where it can cost anywhere from $740,000 to $750,000 to purchase a home.
