ARLINGTON, VA — An officer-involved fatal shooting that took place Tuesday afternoon near the entrance to the Rosslyn Metro Station is being investigated by the Critical Incident Response Team, according to Arlington County Police.

ACPD officers responded around 3:45 p.m. for the report of a suspicious person at a business in the 1500 block of Wilson Blvd. The officers determined that a man had started a conversation with employees. While they were talking, the man pulled a knife out of his pocket and then left the business, according to police.

The officers located a man matching the suspect’s description on the top floor of the Metro station. When they tried to detain the man, he pulled out a knife and a physical altercation started, according to the incident report.

During the struggle in which the man continued holding the knife, one of the officers fired their handgun, striking the suspect, according to authorities.
The officers began administering lifesaving aid until emergency medical personnel arrived to take the man to a nearby hospital. The suspect was later pronounced deceased, according to authorities. ACPD is awaiting notification of the suspect’s family before releasing his identity.

The two officers who were involved in the altercation were taken to the hospital. One was evaluated while the other was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Both officers were placed on routine administrative leave until CIRT finishes its investigation. The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will conduct its own administrative review of the incident.
