Suspected Gunman Shot By Officers In Green Valley Neighborhood: Police

A man, who was shot and injured by Arlington police after he refused to drop his gun Friday night, is facing multiple charges, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — A Maryland man, who was shot and injured by police after he fired several gunshots in the Green Valley neighborhood Friday night, is facing multiple charges, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

El-Amin Mutee, 44, of Waldorf, Maryland was charged with brandishing and felon in possession of a firearm. Additional charges are pending against Mutee, police said.

Around 7:35 p.m. on Friday, police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Shirlington Road for the report of multiple shots fired. Officers encountered Mutee in the roadway and ordered him to drop his gun, according to police.

Mutee refused to comply with the officers’ commands and raised the firearm, police said. Two Arlington County officers then fired their guns, hitting Mutee. Police officers then administered first aid on Mutee, who was then taken to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition, according to police.

Mutee’s gun was recovered on the scene. No police officers or residents were injured in the incident.

Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn requested that the regional Critical Incident Response Team investigate the incident. Following completion of the investigation, the evidence will be sent to the Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for independent review.

In accordance with police department policy, the two officers who fired shots have been placed on routine administrative leave.
