These two incidents mark the 26th and 27th times in 2022 that TSA officers prevented people from bringing guns onto flights at Reagan National Airport. In 2021, TSA officers prevented passengers from bringing a total of 30 guns onto flights at Reagan National Airport.

Civil penalties for bringing a handgun into a checkpoint can stretch into thousands of dollars, depending on the circumstances. This applies to travelers with or without concealed gun carry permits because even though someone may have a concealed carry permit, it does not allow for a firearm to be carried onto an airplane, TSA said.
