Pedestrian In Crosswalk Fatally Struck By Driver In Arlington: Police

ARLINGTON, VA — A pedestrian died on Saturday after a driver crashed into the woman as she was crossing the street in a crosswalk in the Williamsburg neighborhood, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

The fatal crash occurred around 9 a.m. on Saturday in the 5800 block of Little Falls Road. The woman, Gwendolyn Hayes, 85, of Arlington was taken by medics to the hospital where she died, police said.

Arlington County Police said their preliminary investigation indicated that the driver turned left from John Marshall Drive onto Little Falls Road and struck Hayes as she was crossing the street in the crosswalk. The driver remained on scene, police said.

ARLnow reported that this is the third pedestrian to be killed by a driver along a two-block stretch of Little Falls Road near Nottingham Elementary School over the past eight years.

The fatal crash remains an active criminal investigation, police said. Anyone with information that may help with the investigation into the fatal crash is asked to contact Detective D.
