DC Woman Hit With Pepper Spray During Arrest By VA Police
Arlington County Police officers used pepper spray while arresting a shoplifting suspect from D.C. in Pentagon City on Tuesday.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Police officers used pepper spray to take a shoplifting suspect into custody Tuesday morning in Pentagon City, according to authorities.
Officers responded around 11:14 a.m. to a business in the 1100 block of South Hayes Street for the report of a larceny, according to police. The officers determined that a woman had concealed merchandise in a bag and left the business without paying for the items.
“The suspect attempted to flee towards a nearby store and continued to resist arrest, during which the officer deployed OC Spray, and the suspect was taken into custody,” according to the incident report. Police identified the suspect as Egypt Greene, 32, of Washington, D.C.

Once Greene was cleared by medics at the scene, police arrested and charged her with grand larceny: shoplifting, larceny with intent to sell and obstruction of justice, according to police. She was then held without bond.
Greene was arraigned Wednesday morning in Arlington General District Court, according to court documents. She’s due back in court Thursday morning for a bond hearing and her preliminary hearing is set for July 10.

Both the grand larceny (accessory before the fact) and larceny with intent to sell charges are considered unclassified felonies, according to court documents. The obstruction of justice is a Class 1 misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to the one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500, under the code of Virginia.
