ARLINGTON, VA — The Rosslyn Business Improvement District has formed a partnership with the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail to make the trail a better experience for people who use it.

The Rosslyn BID will sponsor Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail cleanup events and volunteer activities between Memorial Bridge and the Rosslyn neighborhood, such as clearing overgrown vegetation, smoothing bumps along the trail, removing graffiti, and cleaning up trash.

The first Trail Tuesday volunteer event will take place on April 18, and activities will continue through winter 2024.

“The Mount Vernon Trail is a critical link in the region’s trail network and an important gateway to Rosslyn, and I’m looking forward to partnering with the FoMVT’s dedicated volunteers to preserve this treasured community asset,” said Mary-Claire Burick, president of the Rosslyn BID.

The Mount Vernon Trail, maintained by the National Park Service, is an 18-mile paved multi-use trail that stretches from George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate to Theodore Roosevelt Island. In Rosslyn, the Mount Vernon Trail connects with the Custis Trail.

The Rosslyn BID expects its partnership with Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail, a nonprofit group formed in 2018, will encourage more trail users to visit Rosslyn’s businesses and the BID’s community events.

“Rosslyn is a great place to meet up with friends for a drink or a bite to eat before or after a bike ride or run on the trail,” Judd Isbell, president of the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail, said in a statement. “Trails are a powerful economic generator, and our volunteers will be working this year to ensure that the Mount Vernon Trail is a safe and beautiful gateway to Rosslyn.”
