Security Training Exercise At Pentagon To Close Metrorail, Bus Service

Metrorail and bus service at the Pentagon will be closed until about 2 p.m. on Saturday for a security drill at the Pentagon transit center.

ARLINGTON, VA — The Pentagon station on the Metro system will be closed from the time the transit system opens in the morning until about 2 p.m. on Saturday as first responders conduct an emergency response training exercise near the Pentagon’s transit center.

Bus service at the Pentagon also will be closed during the training exercise, the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority said in a news release.

From Saturday morning into early afternoon, people should “expect increased public safety presence in the area of the Pentagon Transit Center on Saturday for an emergency response training exercise,” the Arlington County Police Department said.

The Pentagon Force Protection Agency said it would be among the agencies taking part in the exercise. Emergency vehicles, flashing lights and sirens may be visible outside the station during the drill.

During the temporary station closure, Metrobus service that normally serves the Pentagon Transit Center will instead be relocated to Pentagon City. Express shuttle buses operating to and from Huntington and Franconia-Springfield to Pentagon due to major construction on the Blue and Yellow lines will be diverted to Crystal City where customers can transfer to and from the rail system.

While the Pentagon station is closed, Blue Line trains will bypass the station, passing through without stopping. Customers can use the Pentagon City Station as an alternative.

Bus and rail service will resume to the Pentagon at about 2 p.m. at the end of the training exercise. Metro said it will notify customers on its social media channels when rail and bus service resumes at the Pentagon station.
