Shoplifter Threatens Arlington Store Employee With Knife: Police
A middle-aged man tried to shoplift merchandise and then brandished a knife at an employee who confronted him in Arlington, police say.

ARLINGTON, VA -- Police are searching for a suspect after a man threatened an Arlington store employee with a knife after he was confronted for shoplifting, police say.
Police were called to the 1200 block of S. Hayes Street at around 4:14 p.m. on March 26 to a report of a robbery in progress, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.
"[A] male suspect entered a store and allegedly concealed merchandise," the report states. "A store employee confronted the suspect and recovered some of the merchandise before the suspect displayed a knife and fled the scene."

Police described the suspect as follows: "black male, approximately 55 years old and weighing 175 lbs. He was described as wearing a long black coat over jeans, a dark winter hat, black boots and carrying a backpack."
