ARLINGTON, VA — A 32-year-old man faces multiple charges, including assault and battery, in connection to a shoplifting incident that occurred Monday afternoon at a Pentagon City business, according to Arlington County Police.

Officers responded to a business in the 1200 block of S. Hayes Street, around 2:33 p.m., for the report of loss prevention personnel detaining a shoplifter, according to authorities.

A preliminary investigation revealed that loss prevention personnel confronted a man they said had concealed merchandise and tried to leave without paying.

During the confrontation, the man assaulted the loss prevention personnel, leading to a fight that left both parties suffering minor injuries, according to police. The injuries did not require medical treatment.

The suspect, whom police identified as Marcus Bailey of an undetermined address, was arrested. During the arrest, police recovered a knife and firearm from Bailey, police say.

ACPD charged Bailey with robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a concealed weapon and assault and battery. He was then held without bond.
