'Shopping Cart Killer' Suspect Indicted On 5 Felonies In VA Court

The man dubbed the Shopping Cart Killer was indicted on five felonies in a Virginia court and could be linked to a Maryland woman's death.

HARRISONBURG, VA — A Virginia grand jury on Monday indicted a suspected serial predator dubbed by police as the Shopping Cart Killer on five counts, including two counts of first-degree murder, according to news reports.

The indictment of Anthony Eugene Robinson, 36, by the Rockingham County grand jury in Harrisonburg came as police investigate whether Robinson is responsible for the death of another woman in Prince George's County, Maryland.

WTOP reported that Robinson appeared by video from jail on Monday after the Rockingham County grand jury indicted him on the five counts. These include two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of hiding the bodies of 54-year-old Beth Redmon of Harrisonburg, and 39-year-old Tonita Smith of Charlottesville.

The new count included in the indictment, aggravated murder of more than one person within three years, is a Class 1 felony, according to WTOP.

Along with the two deaths, Robinson is being investigated for links to three other women who were killed.

The Washington Post also reported that police are re-examining the 2018 death of a Maryland woman who Robinson was engaged to marry. The woman could be Robinson's sixth victim, according to reports.

Skye Allen, 30, died on Valentine’s Day in 2018 when she and Robinson, who she planned to marry, were living with Allen’s mother in Glenarden, The Washington Post reported.

Stacey Allen told Prince George's County Police she found her daughter barely breathing in the bedroom the younger Allen shared with Robinson. Skye Allen died a short time later at an area hospital.

Her death was found to be caused by “fatal cardiac arrhythmia,” according to a copy of her death certificate obtained by The Post.

Prince George’s County police told the newspaper it will review the case, and the department was not notified of Allen's death in 2018.

Fairfax County Police in Virginia said they believe Robinson is linked to two badly decomposed bodies that were found on Dec. 15, 2021, in a large plastic container near a shopping cart in the Alexandria area. Police identified the victims as Cheyenne Brown, 29, of D.C., and Stephanie Harrison, 48, of Redding, California.

On Nov. 23, Harrisonburg police identified two victims in an open lot in the city's commercial district, according to Police Chief Kelley Warner. Police arrested Robinson in connection with the killings of Redmon and Smith.

The police believe the women were victims of a suspected serial killer dubbed the "shopping cart killer" because the person used shopping carts to move and dump murder victims' bodies in remote areas.

A spokesperson with the Metropolitan Police Department told WTOP that Robinson is a person of interest in the death of Sonya Champ, 40, of Northwest. Champ was found by police around 11:30 a.m. Sept. 7, 2021, unconscious and unresponsive inside a shopping cart in the 200 block of F Street, Northeast.
