There's Still Time To Catch Fall Festivals In Arlington

Fall offers opportunities to have fun outside, including the Shirlington Shucktoberfest, the Apex Fall Fest and other events.

ARLINGTON, VA — Fall is a great time to get outside in Arlington and take in the rich offering of festivals.

The changing colors of autumn provide a scenic background for fall and harvest festivals, which have contests ranging from apple bobbing and pumpkin carving to lumberjack contests and Halloween parades. Fall is also the season for corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple orchard visits.

Here are a few festivals and events in Arlington worth putting on the calendar:

1. Fairlington Fall Festival: Saturday, Oct. 15, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Pumpkin decorating, fall-themed photo booth, face painting, balloon animals, games, food and drinks.

2. Fall Heritage Festival: Saturday, Oct. 15, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Gulf Branch Nature Center, 3608 N. Military Rd., Arlington, VA

Gather around the Walker Log House to celebrate our nation’s heritage. Step back into history and try your hand at some old-time games and crafts, make a corn husk doll, try on a coon-skin cap or work the cider press! Write with a quill pen, churn butter and enjoy old-time music. Bring your old pants and shirt to make a scarecrow (child sizes work best). Meet at Gulf Branch Nature Center. Registration Required.

3. 5th Annual Shirlington Shucktoberfest Beer and Oyster Festival: Saturday, Oct, 22, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Village at Shirlington, 2700 S. Quincy St., Arlington, VA

Featuring local oysters, breweries and craft beer, food vendors, games and live DJ. Family and dog-friendly event.

4. Apex Fall Fest: Sunday, Oct. 30, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Restoration Anglican Church, 1815 N. Quincy. St., Arlington VA

Get ready for a chili cook-off, hoedown, pumpkin carving, field games, a costume competition, and more. BYOPumpkin, wear your fave costume, invite a friend, and enter the chili cook-off here.

5. District 2 Fall Feast: Saturday, Nov. 12, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Little Falls Presbyterian Church, 6025 Little Falls Rd., Arlington, VA

Join District 2 Legislator Eva Marie Carney for a District 2 Fall Feast. Bring favorite dishes (with recipes, if you'd like) to share. Turkey and a vegan main dish, as well as beverages will be provided. Attendees will visit, make traditional rattles out of elk and bison hide, and share a family meal. Children are welcome, and the craft is appropriate for children eight and up with one-to-one adult supervision. RSVP by Nov. 5 to evamariecarney@gmail.com.
