ARLINGTON, VA — A 35-year-old Arlington man is facing multiple charges, including attempted malicious wounding, in connection to an assault that took place Wednesday night in the Columbia Forest area, according to Arlington County Police.

Officers responded around 7:54 p.m. to the intersection of Columbia Pike at South Four Mile Run Drive for the report of an assault in progress.

The officers determined that two men were involved in a verbal dispute, during which one them threatened and then threw a rock at the man with whom he was arguing, according to police. The man who threw the rock then tried to take the other man's personal belongings.

The officers arrested Daniel Silva and charged him with attempted malicious wounding, attempted robbery and drunk in public, according to the incident report.

Silva was arraigned Thursday morning in Arlington General District Court, where he returned on Friday morning for a bond hearing, according to court documents. His preliminary hearing was set for Aug. 19.

Class 4 misdemeanors, like the drunk in public charge, are punishable by a fine of up to $250, according to the state code. They do not carry any jail time.

The attempted robbery and threat charge is a Class 6 felony, which is punishable by a prison sentence of one to five years or a jail sentence up to 12 months and/or a fine of up to $2,500, according to Virginia law.

If Silva is convicted on the attempted malicious wounding charge, which is a Class 5 felony, he faces a a potential sentence of one to 10 years in prison or up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.
