Townhouse Fire In Arlington Kills Pet, Badly Damages Home

A townhouse in the East Falls Church neighborhood of Arlington was badly damaged by a fire that started late Tuesday night, officials said.

ARLINGTON, VA — A townhouse in the East Falls Church neighborhood of Arlington was badly damaged by a fire that started late Tuesday night, according to fire officials.

During their search of the house in the Sycamore Heights townhome community, firefighters rescued four pets, including cats. One pet was found dead inside the house, the Arlington County Fire Department said Wednesday.

No firefighters or other people were injured in the blaze, officials said.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, fire crews from Arlington were dispatched to the townhouse in the 6500 block of Washington Boulevard, near the corner of Sycamore Street and a block from the East Falls Church Metro Station in Arlington.

When they arrived, crews found fire coming from the townhouse, the fire department said.

More than 50 firefighters worked to put out the fire and help with the pet rescues. Crews from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department provided assistance at the scene of the fire, officials said.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the fire department had not released a cause of the fire.
