ARLINGTON, VA -- A vehicle fire during rush hour on the George Washington Memorial Parkway Thursday morning caused major delays in North Arlington, according to a report.

WTOP tweeted at 7:18 a.m. that the GW Parkway was stopped in both directions between VA-123 and Spout Run Parkway due to a crash resulting in a fire. The fire was soon put out, but the damage was done: extreme backups caused problems for commuters throughout the morning.

Eventually, the right southbound lane started getting buy, with northbound lanes diverting at Spout Run Parkway.
