What's Open, Closed For Columbus Day 2022 In Arlington

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County government offices will be open on Monday, Oct. 10, although the federal Columbus Day holiday will result in some closures in the county. Columbus Day is the only federal holiday that Arlington County does not recognize.

In neighboring Alexandria, government offices will be closed to recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day. The City of Alexandria first recognized Indigenous Peoples'Day in 2019, changing it from Columbus Day.

Below are the openings and closures to know for Monday, Oct. 10 in Arlington:

Arlington County government offices: Open on Monday, Oct. 10.

Arlington Public Schools: No school for students on Oct. 10. Monday is a professional learning day for staff.

Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will be closed on Oct. 10.

Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters will be enforced on Oct. 10.

Libraries: On Oct. 10, all Arlington County Library branches will be open. Visit the library page for more information.

Trash Pickup & Recycling: Trash/Recycling/Yard Waste Curbside Routes: Regular collection on Monday, Oct. 10.

Post offices: Closed on Oct. 10.

Department of Motor Vehicles: On Oct. 10, all Virginia DMV centers in Northern Virginia (including 4150 S Four Mile Run Dr.) will be closed. Many DMV services are available either online or by visiting dmvNow.com/appt to schedule an appointment.

Metro: On Monday, Oct. 10, Metrorail will operate on a Saturday holiday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. For more information on schedules, visit www.wmata.com. Six Metro Yellow and Blue Line stations south of Reagan National Airport remain closed through Nov. 5 with free shuttle buses continuing as an alternative.

ART Bus: ART will operate on a regular schedule on Monday, Oct. 10.

Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: All community centers are open on Oct. 10. The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center is open. Arlington County parks are also open.

COVID-19 clinics: Vaccine clinics are closed on Sundays and Mondays. The Curative testing kiosks will be open on Monday, Oct. 10 by appointment.
