What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2022 In Arlington
Here are the Thanksgiving schedule changes to expect around Arlington, plus Turkey Trot information.
ARLINGTON, VA — Various closings and schedule changes will be in place for the Thanksgiving holiday in Arlington.
County government, schools and other services will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24 as well as Nov. 25. Services like transit and trash collection will operate on modified schedules.
Turkey trots will be taking place across Northern Virginia on Thanksgiving Day. In Arlington, more than 3,000 runners will participate in the Annual Arlington Turkey Trot at the Lyon Park course to help raise funds for community members in need. Now in its 17th year, the annual 5K trot has raised more than $1 million to help the Arlington community.

The 2nd annual Turkey Day Donut Dash fun run will take place in Arlington on Thanksgiving Day. The fun run starts at the Cardinal Elementary School basketball court at 1644 N McKinley Road in Arlington at 9 a.m.
Below are the openings and closures to know for the Thanksgiving holiday in Arlington:

Arlington County government offices: Closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25.
Arlington Public Schools: Schools are closed Nov. 23-25.
Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 23 and will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov 25.
Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.
Libraries: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25. The library will be open on its regular schedule on Saturday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 27.
Trash Pickup & Recycling: No collection Thursday. Thursday routes run on Friday, Nov. 25; Friday routes run on Saturday, Nov. 26. Special collections for items like brush, metal and e-waste will not take place on Nov. 24. Thursday routes will run on Nov. 25 and Friday routes will run on Nov. 26. Much delivery will not be available over the Thanksgiving weekend. The drop-off facility for household hazards/electronics will be closed Nov. 24 to Nov. 27
Post offices: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 24.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are typically closed on Thanksgiving.
Metro: Metrorail will run on a Sunday holiday schedule on Nov. 24 from 7 a.m. to midnight. On Nov. 25, Metrorail will run on a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. Metrobus will be on a Sunday schedule on Nov. 24.
ART Bus: ART will operate holiday bus service on Thursday, Nov. 24. ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 86 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate. On Friday, Nov. 25, ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55, 77 and 87 will operate on Saturday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate. The ART Customer Call Center will be closed.
COVID-19 clinics: Vaccine clinics will be closed Nov. 24-25. The Curative testing kiosks will be closed both days.
Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: All community centers are closed on Nov. 24. Administrative offices are closed. Classes are canceled. Residents should check with their leagues on schedules. Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center is closed. Arlington County parks are open.
Animal Welfare League of Arlington: AWLA will be closed to the public on Thursday, Nov. 24 and will be otherwise open for business on Friday, Nov. 25 and the weekend (Nov. 26 and 27). Visitors are welcome inside the facility.
Sheriff's Office: Administrative offices are closed. Public fingerprinting and in-person personal visits at the Arlington County detention center are suspended due to the pandemic until further notice.
