What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2023 In Arlington
Here are the Thanksgiving schedule changes to expect around Arlington, plus Turkey Trot information.
ARLINGTON, VA — Various closings and schedule changes will be in place for the Thanksgiving holiday in Arlington.
County government, schools and other services will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 23 as well as Nov. 24. Services like transit and trash collection will operate on modified schedules.
Turkey trots will be taking place across Northern Virginia on Thanksgiving Day. In Arlington, thousands of runners will participate in the Annual Arlington Turkey Trot at the Lyon Park course to help raise funds for community members in need.

The Arlington County Police Department will conduct road closures from about 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday to accommodate the Arlington Turkey Trot.

Arlington County government offices: Closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24.
Arlington Public Schools: Schools are closed Nov. 22-24.
Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 22 and will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov 24.
Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.
Libraries: Libraries closed at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24. The library will be open on its regular schedule on Saturday, Nov. 25 and Sunday, Nov. 26.
Trash Pickup & Recycling: No collection Thursday. Thursday routes run on Friday, Nov. 24; Friday routes run on Saturday, Nov. 25.
Leaf Collection: No first passes will be done on Thursday, Nov. 23. Vacuum trucks will resume leaf collection on Friday, Nov. 24.
Special Collections (brush, metal e-waste): No collection Thursday. Thursday routes run on Friday, Nov. 24; Friday routes run on Saturday, Nov. 25.
Post offices: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 23.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are typically closed on Thanksgiving.
Metro: On Thanksgiving Day, will operate on a Sunday Holiday schedule, with trains running from 7 a.m. to midnight. On Friday, Nov. 24, trains will run from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. For more details, go to https://www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables/index.cfm.
Metrobus: Will operate on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day. Will operate on regular Friday schedule on Nov. 24. More details at https://www.wmata.com/service/bus/metrobus-saturday-supplemental.cfm.
ART Bus: ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Sunday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate.
Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: All Community Centers are closed on Thanksgiving. The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will be closed on Thursday. It will reopen on Friday, Nov. 24 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parks will be open.
Animal Welfare League of Arlington: AWLA will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 and will be open on Friday, Nov. 24 from noon to 5 p.m. and the weekend (Nov. 25 and 26).
Sheriff's Office: Administrative Offices closed on Thanksgiving. See detention center visiting hours.
