Democratic Candidates Set For 32nd District Caucus, Republicans Plan Their Own
Ahead of a January special election for state Sen. Suhas Subramanyam's seat, the two parties are choosing nominees through caucuses.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A special election to fill the seat of state Sen. Suhas Subramanyam in the 32nd Senate District will be held in January. Republicans and Democrats are holding caucuses on Nov. 16 to choose nominees for the special election.
A special election was scheduled after Subramanyam won election to the 10th Congressional District on Nov. 5. The 32nd Senate district special election on Jan. 7, 2025 will be open to voters within the district only. The district is labeled as strong Democratic by the Virginia Public Access project and includes part of Loudoun County.
According to the Virginia Department of Elections, registering to vote or updating a voter registration is available through Dec. 31. Same-day registration is available through a provisional ballot after Dec. 31. Voters may seek more information through the Loudoun County Office of Elections.

Early voting for the special election will happen from Dec. 11 through 5 p.m. on Jan. 4. Check back for early voting location information from the Loudoun County Office of Elections.
Applications for mail-in ballots may be requested from Dec. 11 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 27.

The Loudoun County Democratic Party is holding a caucus on Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Six candidates have filed to run: Hurunnessa Fariad of the Multi-faith Neighbors Network, former Del. Ibraheem Samirah, small business owner Puja Khanna, former Commonwealth's Attorney Buta Biberaj, Del. Kannan Srinivasan, and former Dulles District Board of Supervisors candidate Sree NagiReddi.
Democrats who are registered to vote and live in Senate District 32 can participate in the caucus. At the caucus, voters will complete a voter eligibility pledge declaring they are registered to vote in Senate District, will support the caucus winner and are a Democrat that supports the party's principles.
Voting locations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 16 will include:
- Sterling Community Center, 120 Enterprise St., Sterling, VA 20164
- Moorefield Station Elementary School, 22325 Mooreview Pkwy., Ashburn, VA 20148
- Cedar Lane Elementary School, 43700 Tolamac Dr, Ashburn, VA 20147
- Madison’s Trust Elementary School, 42380 Creighton Rd., Brambleton, VA 20148
- Hutchison Farm Elementary School, 42819 Center St., South Riding, VA, 20152
Republicans will also hold a caucus on Nov. 16 open to Republican voters within the district. The caucus was requested by the 32nd State Senate Legislative District Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia. Candidates must file to participate in the caucus by 6 p.m. on Nov. 13. Loudoun Now reported that the caucus has six candidates — Ommair Butt, Tumay Harding, Rafi Khaja, Sam Abraham, and Samuel Yan.
Caucus voting will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the Cascades Overlook Event Center, 21453 Epicerie Plaza, Sterling, Virginia 20164 and Guidepost Montessori of Aldie, 24328 Marrwood Drive, Aldie, Virginia 20105.
Candidate lists for the special election will be available from the Virginia Department of Elections once candidates are determined by the caucuses.
