5 Loudoun County Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

From food assistance to programs for people with disabilities, here are some causes that could use a helping hand this Giving Tuesday.

ASHBURN, VA — If you’re like many of your Loudoun County neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Ashburn and Loudoun County area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

1. Loudoun First Responders Foundation: When the February house explosion killed Firefighter Trevor Brown and injured other first responders, this foundation assisted the first responders and their families. Providing financial help to active first responders when needed is the mission of this foundation every day.

2. Loudoun Hunger Relief: This nonprofit provides food assistance to people in need as the county's households living under the poverty line grows along with the population. The organization serves as a food pantry providing food directly to clients as a partner of the nationwide Feeding America.

3. The ARC of Loudoun: This nonprofit offers programs and advocacy for people with disabilities. It runs five main programs, the private Aurora School, Ability Fitness Center, Aurora Behavior Clinic, “A Life Like Yours” ALLY Advocacy Center, and Open Door Learning Center preschool.

4. LAWS Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services: LAWS was founded as a shelter to help women and children fleeing domestic and sexual violence. Today, the organization serves over 1,000 victims each year with an emergency shelter and resources for victims, plus The Resourceful Woman thrift store and Loudoun Child Advocacy Center.

5. Loudoun Cares: This organization provides relief to people in need, including rent and eviction assistance, utility assistance and other resources. Assistance is provided to income-eligible households.
