Adoption fees will be waived for all pets during the Empty the Shelters event at Loudoun County Animal Services.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Now's the time to get a new pet from the animal shelter, because Loudoun County Animal Services will be waiving adoption fees during the upcoming Empty the Shelters event.

Empty the Shelters will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter, 42225 Adoption Drive, Leesburg, VA. Adoption fees will be waived for all adoptable pets, including cats, dogs, small pets and livestock.

Loudoun County Animal Services is working with sponsor Bissell Pet Foundation to waive adoption fees.

"With more than 410 shelters in 43 states participating, LCAS is proud to be a part of this effort," said Operations Manager Melissa Heard. "Our fee-waived adoption events help draw attention to the animals waiting at the shelter for homes. It is the opportunity to make a difference in the life of an animal and gain a new family member while doing so!"

Adopted pets during Empty the Shelters will come with a coupon for a free GPS tracker.

"Last year LCAS received nearly 700 stray pets, and many of those animals were never reclaimed by their owners," said Heard. "In addition to microchipping your pet, a GPS collar is a great way to help keep pets and families together."

Most adoptions can be completed within one day. Adopters can learn about the adoption process and see adoptable pets on Loudoun County Animal Services' website.

Loudoun County Animal Services also has a Home-to-Home platform, which allows pet owners to put up pets for adoption with hopes of finding them a home before coming to the animal shelter. The pets on Home-to-Home do not have adoption fees.
