This year's event comes as Loudoun County Animal Services has reported a 17 percent increase in surrenders by pet owners so far in 2025.
"In many of these cases, these animals had loving families whose personal circumstances, such as economic issues and even homelessness, changed their abilities to keep their beloved pets," said shelter operations manager Melissa Heard. "We are hopeful this event will help us find new families who will love them just as much as their previous ones."

All dogs, cats and rabbits from Loudoun County Animal Services are spayed or neutered and receive a microchip registered to the adopter. Dogs and cats also get age-appropriate vaccinations and a coupon for a free GPS tracker. Dogs come with a voucher for four free group training sessions. The standard adoption screening process still applies, but many adoptions can be completed on the same day.
In addition to adoptions, the Clear the Shelters event will have a kids craft station and giveaways for all adopters such as supplies, treats and toys.
