Colombian Man Sentenced to Three Years for Loudoun County, Md. Burglary Spree

A Colombian man in the U.S. illegally was sentenced to three years Thursday for his involvement with a Houston-based burglary crew.

A Colombian man who prosecutors say robbed at least 12 homes in Virginia and Maryland was sentenced to three years in prison Thursday.

Roger Mina-Cuero, 29, of Buenaventura, Colombia, pleaded guilty in June to moving stolen property across state borders and re-entering the country illegally.

Mina-Cuero belonged to a Houston-based burglary crew that traveled as far as Virginia and Maryland burglarize homes and steal jewelry, cash and electronic items, according to court documents.

The crew would reportedly case neighborhoods before the burglaries to identify residences where no residents were home and break through the back windows. The would later sell the stolen goods in Houston and forward a portion of the proceeds to Colombia.

Loudoun County Police Department worked with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations directorate during the investigation.

Mina-Cuero was sentenced in federal court in northern Virginia for interstate transportation of stolen property and illegal reentry to the United States by a removed alien. His sentence also requires a restitution of $371,000 and forfeiture of $311,000, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
