David stated on deciding to run for office, “I’ve spent a great deal of time over the past year talking with people in the community about their concerns and frustrations with the ‘business as usual’ politics in Richmond.” Reid added, “The people of Loudoun County are very ‘results-oriented’ and my experience in the Navy, in the community, and in business will provide them with innovative, bipartisan solutions to address the issues of transportation, education, college affordability, and public safety.”

David holds a B.A. in Political Science from Northeastern Oklahoma State University and a Master’s Diploma in Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College.
BACKGROUND - David Reid is a native Virginian who has lived most of his life in the state. He was born and raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Buena Vista (Rockbridge County), where the Reid family has lived since at least the 1790s. David’s parents divorced when he was 6 years old and his youngest brother was 2 years old. After his mother left home, David lived with his father and four siblings in a four-room cinder block house with no hot water, no indoor bathroom, and heated with a wood stove.
In 1972, David and three siblings moved from Buena Vista to the United Methodist Children’s Home in Richmond, VA where the children were placed into “cottages” based upon their age and gender. After spending 6-years at the Children’s Home, David and his youngest brother moved to Tahlequah, OK with foster parents. David completed high school in Oklahoma and attended college at Northeastern Oklahoma State University, where he earned B.A. in Political Science, with minors in History and Economics.
David was only able to attend college with the help of a part-time job, academic scholarships, Pell Grants, College Work Study, and Guaranteed Student Loans. He is the first person in his family to receive a four-year college degree. David later received a Master’s Diploma in Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College and participated in graduate studies on International Development at the American University.
Upon completing his college degree and returning to Virginia, David recognized he had benefited from the great opportunities the United States offers and believed he owed something to the country. To repay the nation that had given him so much, in 1987, David volunteered to join the Navy Reserves, where he was commissioned as a Naval Intelligence Officer. While in the Navy, David rose to the rank of Commander, made two deployments to South Korea and one deployment to Iceland, provided intelligence support to Operation Desert Shield and Operation Enduring Freedom, and was awarded the distinguished Navy Commendation Medal on three occasions.
