Democratic Caucus To Determine Nominee For Subramanyam's Senate Seat

After state Sen. Suhas Subramanyam won election to Congress, Loudoun Democrats will hold a primary caucus to choose a nominee.

ASHBURN, VA — A special election will be held to fill the Virginia Senate seat held by state Sen. Suhas Subramanyam (D-Loudoun), who was elected to the 10th Congressional District seat.

The Loudoun County Democratic Party announced a caucus, or "firehouse primary" to determine the party's nominee for Senate District 32. As reported by Loudoun Now, candidates announced so far include former Commonwealth's Attorney Buta Biberaj, Del. Kannan Srinivasan (D-Loudoun), former Del. Ibraheem Samirah, Hurunnessa Fariad, Puja Khanna and Sree NagiReddi.

The date of the special election has not yet been announced. The 32nd district is labeled as strong Democratic by the Virginia Public Access project and includes part of Loudoun County.

According to the county's Democratic Party, a caucus to select a nominee will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Democrats who are registered to vote and live in Senate District 32 can participate in the caucus.

At the caucus, voters will complete a voter eligibility pledge declaring they are registered to vote in Senate District, will support the caucus winner and are a Democrat that supports the party's principles.

Candidates can file to run until 6 p.m. on Nov. 11. The list of candidates will be published on the party's website once the deadline passes.
