Disability Awareness Month Events Throughout Loudoun County

Loudoun County is observing Disability Awareness Month throughout October with events celebrating the talents of people with disabilities.

In observance of Disability Awareness Month, Loudoun County is highlighting various events featuring the contributions and talents of people with disabilities throughout the community.

From Loudoun County Public Affairs:

  • Oct. 15 - Fray Masias Peruvian Dancers, 8 p.m., Franklin Park Arts Center, 36441 Blueridge View Lane, Purcellville: All dancers in this troupe are from the Fray Masias School in Peru; all dancers have Down syndrome.
  • Oct. 18 - Very Special Arts of Loudoun Silver Anniversary Celebration, 7:30 p.m., Franklin Park Arts Center, 36441 Blueridge View Lane, Purcellville: The event features the premiere of the “Arts for All” documentary, live music and an art auction.
  • Oct. 28 - 1Book 1Community Author Presentation, 7 p.m., Smart’s Mill Middle School, 850 North King Street, Leesburg: Sharon Draper will discuss her book, “Out of my Mind,” which tells the story of a 10-year-old girl who has a brilliant mind but has never spoken a word. Sponsored by the Loudoun County Public Library.
  • Oct. 29 - Homes for the Long-Run: Building with Universal Design Principles, 7 – 8:30 p.m., Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street, S.E., Leesburg: The Loudoun County Commission on Aging and Disability Services Board are co-sponsoring a free, public presentation on accessible home design, fostering independence for people with disabilities and those who are aging in place.

Loudoun County’s Disability Services Board (DSB) serves as a resource to the Board of Supervisors by identifying and advising on issues of importance to people with physical and sensory disabilities as well as their families and caregivers.
