Freeze Watch Issued For Loudoun County On Tuesday Night

The National Weather Service has issued Loudoun County's first freeze watch of the season for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Cold weather is coming to Loudoun County. For the first time this season, Loudoun County will be under a freeze watch, according to the National Weather Service.

The freeze watch will go into effect on Tuesday night and last until Wednesday morning, according to the announcement from the NWS. Loudoun County is just one of a variety of areas around Maryland and Virginia that are listed in the freeze watch.

Temperatures could dip as low as 31 degrees after sunset on Tuesday, and the frigid conditions could last until about 10 a.m. the next day. The extreme temperatures could kill or damage plants, so if you tend a garden, cover your plants with newspapers or tarp.

NWS officials also said that residents should protect outdoor plumbing as well to prevent burst pipes. "To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly," NWS said in their freeze watch alert. "Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing."
