Hail & Hog Restaurant Files for Bankruptcy Protection

Redskins-themed restaurant will stay open at One Loudoun while resolving construction bills, according to reports.

ASHBURN, VA — The Redskins-themed Hail & Hog restaurant has filed for bankruptcy protection, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The restaurant will reportedly remain open while working through the bankruptcy process.

Hail & Hog Kitchen and Tap opened in May 2016 at One Loudoun with a red-carpet event that included guests from the Redskins organization, which is headquartered in Ashburn.

The large restaurant included a television and radio studio for Redskins-themed broadcasts, an upscale first floor dining experience and an upstairs sports bar atmosphere with wall-to-wall televisions.

Hail & Hog is owned by the G.R.E.A.T. Grille Group, also known as G3, according to the Journal. The bankruptcy is reportedly related to unresolved costs linked to the construction. “While the parties have been talking, more time was needed to reach a resolution," Roy Terry, a lawyer representing Hail & Hog, told the Journal.

The bankruptcy filing notes the restaurant has assets at between $1 million and $10 million and liabilities in the same range.

Originally referred to as the Redskins Grille, the restaurant was announced more than two years before opening. The name was changed in early 2016 before the opening to refer to the team's fight song and "The Hogs," a reference to the Redskins' offensive line between the 1980s and the early 1990s.
