Domestic Violence Leading To Wife's Death Prompts Husband's Sentence
The victim was killed months after her husband was released on bond following another domestic violence incident against her.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A husband was sentenced last Thursday to 42 years in prison for his wife's murder in Loudoun County, which happened months after he was released on bond following another domestic violence incident.
Peter James Lollobrigido, 52, was sentenced to life in prison with all but 42 years suspended in the murder case of his wife, Regina Redman. That means an active prison sentence of 42 years and supervised probation for life when released. The sentence resulted from charges of first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, violating a protective order (resulting in serious injury), two counts of abduction by force or intimidation, and two counts of assault and battery of a family member.
"The simple fact that this individual was released on an agreed, unsecured bond after badly beating his spouse over the course of two days and then went and murdered her less than two months later, is horrifying—a nightmare come true," said Commonwealth's Attorney Bob Anderson. "There’s a tragic lesson in this case; when you are dealing with an individual with known violent tendencies, the expectation must be that there is protection for the victim. Without that protection, this worst-case scenario could be the dire consequence."

The couple had an argument leading to domestic violence at their Dulles apartment on July 21, 2021. According to the prosecutor's office, Redman had left the balcony where she was arguing with Lollobrigido, when he followed her inside, grabbed her shoulders and threw her against the wall. He then put his arm around her neck and began choking her, telling her, "you’re going to go to sleep, shut the **** up." She was able to escape by twisting and bending back Lollobrigido's finger.
The next morning, Lollobrigido continued the argument while Redman was getting ready for work. Prosecutors say he threw his wife onto the refrigerator, causing her to hit her head. He then repeatedly slammed her head onto the countertop, dragged her across the floor, threw her on the couch and repeatedly slapped her face.

After escaping her husband and trying to leave the house with personal items, Lollobrigido again picked her up, threw her against the wall and slammed her head several times. She left the apartment after that, but Lollobrigido followed her to the elevator and continued the argument. Prosecutors say Lollobrigido threw Regina into the elevator and repeatedly slammed her head into the elevator wall. Redman clung to a handrail inside the elevator to stop him from slamming her against the wall again, but the handrail broke loose due to Lollobrigido's attack. Lollobrigido continued to slam her against the elevator wall until their teenage son stopped him, leading Redman to escape.
Redman went to the emergency room and got a CAT scan and X-rays. Law enforcement was notified, leading to warrants obtained against Lollobrigido. He was arrested on July 23, 2021 and was released on bond on July 30, 2021.
Anderson, who was elected in November 2023, noted the decision was under the previous Commonwealth's Attorney administration. WTOP reported that the prosecutor's office and the defendant's attorney agreed to the bond with an ankle monitor before his trial. On Sept. 13, 2021, Redman obtained a protective order against Lollobrigido, which forbade him from contacting her, and provided her solely with their apartment in Dulles.
However, on Sept. 19, 2021, Loudoun County sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting report at the apartment. Deputies heard banging coming from the unit and saw Lollobrigido exit with blood on his clothing. Deputies detained him and found Redman on the floor with multiple, severe injuries on her head and face. A blood-covered hammer was found nearby, prosecutors say.
An investigation determined Redman was in bed when Lollobrigido arrived. Prosecutors say he punched and kicked his wife in the bedroom, retrieved a hammer from the kitchen and struck Regina in the head repeatedly with the hammer.
Redman died of her injuries on Sept. 26, 2021. Her obituary noted that she died four days before her 45th birthday in the Reston Hospital Center ICU. Redman had sought resources for domestic violence before, the obituary said.
Lollobrigido had taken a plea agreement on June 20, 2024.
"While nothing can lessen the pain caused by the loss of Regina, it is my hope that this plea and sentence brings the family certainty and finality with respect to the court process," said Anderson.
Redman's friends and family testified in court in memory of their loved one. Redman, who lived in Loudoun County for most of her life and was a Park View High School graduate, was remembered as a working mom who was involved in her son's educational activities. Her obituary said she and her son joined charity races, and she enjoyed performing random acts of kindness.
"We urge all who read Regina’s story to remember her, as we do, and to reflect on the circumstances that lead to her tragic death," her obituary said. "We can each play a role to prevent this from happening to anyone else. We are hoping that through awareness, other families will be helped from experiencing this type of tragedy."
