ASHBURN, VA — Independence Day falls on a Friday in 2025, kicking off a star-spangled three-day weekend packed with fireworks, festivals and other Fourth of July fun in and around Ashburn.
To help you fit it all in on your 4th of July calendar, Patch has put together a guide to what’s going on in Ashburn and the surrounding areas.

What: Brambleton What A Blast

This annual What a Blast! celebration returns with food trucks, a bigger beer garden hosted by Bear Chase Brewing and Lost Barrel Brewing, family activities, live music by The Reagan Years and a fireworks show.
What: Ashburn Village 5th of July Fireworks
Where: The Lakes Recreation Center, 44078 Cheltenham Cir, Ashburn, VA 20147
When: Saturday, July 5, about 9 p.m.
The Ashburn Village Fifth of July fireworks over Ashburn Lake will begin around sundown (approximately 9 p.m.). Attendees may bring a blanket to the event. Parking is limited along Cheltenham Circle. Attendees are encouraged to walk and use caution if crossing Ashburn Village Boulevard.
What: Red, White & Run 5K
Where: Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park, 22831 Hanson Park Dr, Aldie, VA
When: Friday, July 4, 8 a.m.
Kick off July 4 with a run and more activities. Dress in your patriotic gear for the certified multi-terrain course taking runners around north complex of the park. Afterward, enjoy light refreshments and an awards ceremony where age group winners and the best patriotic outfit will be recognized.
What: Star-Spangled Sterling
Where: Sterling Middle School, 201 W Holly Ave, Sterling, VA 20164
When: Friday, June 27, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Sterling Community Center's Star-Spangled Sterling includes entertainment, a live DJ, food trucks and outdoor family games. Fireworks begin at approximately 9:30 p.m.
What: Fourth Fest at Claude Moore Park
Where: Claude Moore Park, 21610 Old Vestals Gap Rd, Sterling, VA 20164
When: Friday, July 4, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Claude Moore Park Fourth Fest will have live music, crafts, nature exhibits, historic tours, carnival games, and more.Food will be available for purchase. Attendees should use the Loudoun Park Lane entrance to the park. Parking is available at the Claude Moore Park Visitor Center or the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum, located at 21668 Heritage Lane in Sterling.
Where: Downtown Leesburg, King Street from Ida Lee Drive to Fairfax Street.
When: Friday, July 4, 10 a.m.
The Independence Day Parade runs through historic downtown Leesburg. The parade will start at Ida Lee Park, lead by the American Originals and travel down King Street and conclude at Fairfax Street. This year’s parade will also feature the 15th annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by Loudoun Now. This award will go to the best parade entry; winners’ names will be engraved on the Patriot Cup, which will be on display at Town Hall.
Early arrivals to the parade will enjoy a parade prelude of the American Originals fife & Drum Corps sponsored by Toth Financial. The group will travel the parade route beginning at 9:45 a.m. from Ida Lee Park and stop throughout the route for short performances.

When: Friday, July 4, 6 p.m. (rain date for fireworks only on July 5 at 9:30 p.m.)
Enjoy a night of music, food, fireworks, and fun. Gates will open at 6 p.m., and music starts at 6:30 p.m. The Silver Bullets will perform a mix of songs from today’s Top 40 hits back to 1960s classics. A full food court will serve funnel cakes, ice cream, burgers, hot dogs, tacos and more. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. and are choreographed to patriotic music.
Parking is available at the interior lots off Ida Lee Drive, and the Festival Field parking off King Street. Coolers and large bags are allowed but will be checked at gate entrances. Pets, alcohol, glass bottles and personal fireworks (including sparklers) are not permitted.
Where: South Riding Golf Club, 43237 Golf View Dr, Chantilly, VA 20152
When: Friday, June 27, 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This is the 30th anniversary edition of Star Spangled South Riding. A parade starting at 5:30 p.m. will leave Town Hall, (43055 Center Street), go up Center Street, turn right on Upper Clubhouse Drive and end at the South Riding Golf Club. The event will also include food and drinks. The fireworks display will be held at 9:15 p.m. Coolers are permitted, but alcoholic beverages from home and pets are not permitted. Canned beer will be available to buy.
What: Town of Lovettsville Parade, Pool Party & Celebration
Where: Lovettsville, VA
When: Thursday, July 3
This event includes a parade, carnival games, food, activities, a pool party and fireworks finale.

- 6:00 p.m. -9:30 p.m. Carnival games, DJ, food for purchase, and face painting festivities will also be available at the Lovettsville Community Park.
- 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - Pool Bash at the Lovettsville Community Center

Where: Franklin Park, 17501 Franklin Park Dr, Purcellville, VA 20132
When: Friday, July 4, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Enjoy giant inflatables and games, music from DJ Bifocals, a photo booth, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, and food for purchase. Loudoun Jazz Ensemble will play live music from 8:30 pm. to 9:15 p.m. The fireworks will begin around 9:30 p.m. and will be accompanied by live music from Loudoun Symphonic Winds. The rain date for the fireworks-only show is Saturday, July 5, at 9:30 p.m. The Franklin Park Pool will have holiday hours on Friday, July 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and normal pool fees will apply.

This national parade draws thousands of spectators and features bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military and specialty units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams, national dignitaries, celebrity participants and more. The route runs along Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Street. A full recording will be shown on YouTube.
What: A Capitol Fourth Concert
Where: West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, Washington, DC
When: Friday, July 4, 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This Independence Day concert, a tradition for decades, is broadcast live from the West Lawn of the United States Capitol. The lineup includes the National Symphony Orchestra, Choral Arts Society of Washington, Patrick Lundy & the Ministers of Music, the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own," the U.S. Army Chorus and more. It is free and open to the public. Gates will open at 3 p.m. You can also watch it on TV at 8 p.m. EST. Check your local listings for viewing information.
What: Lake Fairfax Fireworks
Where: 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr, Reston, VA 20190
When: Saturday, June 28, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Lake Fairfax Fireworks show is a ticketed event. Ticketed entry will begin at 12 p.m., and fireworks will begin shortly after 9 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and find a spot for the show. Food trucks will be on site throughout the day, and picnic areas will be first come, first served. Tickets are $20 per vehicle online through June 27 and $25 per vehicle at the front gate. Pedestrians and cyclists may enter for free.
What: 4th of July Hometown Celebration
Where: Great Falls Village Centre, 776 Walker Rd, Great Falls, VA
When: Friday, July 4, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Morning festivities kick off with the Little Patriots Parade, followed by the Main Parade around the Village Centre. Afterwards, enjoy family fun and food at the Village Green.
Where: Bready Park, 814 Ferndale Ave, Herndon, VA
When: Friday, July 4, 6:30 p.m.
Join the Town of Herndon for a celebration and fireworks display along with family games, music, face painting, children's crafts, food and refreshments. Activities begin at 6:30 p.m., and fireworks launched from the Herndon Centennial Golf Course start at 9:30 p.m. The fire marshal is prohibiting access to the Herndon Centennial Golf Course from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on July 4.
All coolers and bags may be searched, and alcohol, glass containers or personal fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted. Pets should be left at home. Glass containers, grills or cook stoves are not allowed. Attendees may bring a blanket or lawn chair.
Limited parking is available at Herndon Middle School and the Herndon Community Center. At the end of the fireworks display expect delays in and around Bready Park for up to 60 minutes or until traffic clears.
What: Fireworks on the National Mall
Where: National Mall, Washington, DC
When: Friday, July 4, 9:09 p.m. to 9:27 p.m.
The National Park Service will host its annual Independence Day fireworks celebration on the National Mall. The display will start at 9:09 p.m. and will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. In that document, the 13 original colonies declared their independence from Great Britain.
During the pivotal summer of 1776, the pre-Revolutionary celebrations honoring King George III’s birthday were replaced with mock funerals as a symbolic break from the crown.
It was an exciting time in Philadelphia — the Continental Congress voted to break from the crown and, two days later on July 4, the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the original 13 colonies —New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland. Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia — to adopt the Declaration of Independence.
The first annual commemoration of the nation’s independence was in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777, while the Revolutionary War was ongoing. Fireworks have been part of Fourth of July festivities since the first celebration in Philadelphia.
Today, Americans celebrate with fireworks, parades, concerts, and family gatherings and barbecues. Celebrations, though, predate by centuries the designation of Independence Day as a federal holiday, which didn’t happen until 1941.
