LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Election Day is here for voters in Ashburn and across Loudoun County. This year, voters can cast their ballot in local races, including county commonwealth's attorney, where incumbent Buta Biberaj, a Democrat, faces GOP challenger Bob Anderson.

In response to Patch's candidate questionnaire, Biberaj said her accomplishments in office include: violent crime fell by 31% and the daily jail population decreased by over 44 percent. She created policies that addressed the needs of the victim survivors so that the harm caused to them was not further aggravated by the court process. And the office added victim and witness case managers to assist them with obtaining restitution, medical and counseling services, and safe housing.

"The single most pressing issue facing our county is the insufficiency of safe gun laws. I will work with the legislature to pass a ban on assault rifles, gun lock laws, and background checks," Biberaj said. "Further, I will continue to work with law enforcement to educate our community and enforce the Red Flag law which permits an individual to temporarily transfer their firearms to a person of their choice or law enforcement during periods of mental health crisis, so they don't harm themselves or others."
