Making a Difference 5K to Serve as Memorial to Sanders Corner’s Hwang

Sanders Corner Elementary School students, parents and faculty were grief-stricken in November 2012 when they learned Principal Kathy Hwang had died in an accident. 

Loudoun County Public Schools Superintendent Edgar B. Hatrick previously noted Hwang’s “outstanding leadership” and her love for Sanders Corner students. The community pulled together and moved forward.

This November, the Sanders Corner Elementary School PTA will remember Hwang's commitment with the Making a Difference 5K Kathy Hwang Memorial Walk/Run at the school, 43100 Ashburn Farm Parkway, in Ashburn. Registration for the event is now open.

The 5K walk/run, set for Sunday Nov. 17, will kick off a “Read to the Principal” program at another school and help fund staff development. New children’s books will be collected and a bookplate will be added to each recognizing Hwang and the new program.

There is a $25 entry free through Oct. 31. After Oct. 31, the fee increases to $30. Registration closes Nov. 15. Register online at http://prracing.racebx.com/events/register/51918d89-c204-4ec8-b434-70c8c0a86524.

Those who register before Oct. 31 will be guaranteed a commemorative T-shirt. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female winners. Following the awards, a final Fun Run around the track has been planned.

Sponsorships are available:

• Three-Star Sponsor - $350 donation or above. This sponsorship will place your company logo on the event shirts, on an event sign and on the 5K’s Facebook page. The sponsor also will receive a complimentary walk/run registration and an opportunity to insert advertising in our runner's bags.
• Two-Star Sponsor - $250 donation. Two-Star sponsors will have their name listed on the event shirt, on an event sign and on the Facebook page.
• One-Star Sponsor - $150 donation. One-Star sponsors will have their name listed on the Facebook page.
