More Copper Wiring Stolen from Loudoun County Construction Sites

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received two reports of larceny from homes under construction and one report of larceny from a concrete construction business Tuesday through Friday.

On Oct. 8, a concrete construction business reported that between Wednesday and Thursday of this week, an unknown subject(s) removed concrete aluminum panels from an unsecured container parked on the site at the 41000 block of Hepatica Court in Ashburn.

On Oct. 7, an unknown subject(s) reportedly removed an estimated $2,500 of copper wiring from a house under construction at the 41000 block of Cushendall Terrace in Aldie. A similar incident occurred at the 41000 block of Cathedral Valley Square in Aldie in which the same amount of copper wiring was reportedly removed from the site.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says construction site thefts are becoming an alarmingly common trend in the region. In the first two months of 2014, there were 29 reported larcenies from construction sites. Earlier this week, copper wiring was reported missing from a construction site on Haleybird Drive in Sterling.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to report any suspicious activity seen at construction sites, particularly after hours. Items commonly targeted by the thieves include tools, building materials and copper. The thieves typically enter unfinished homes where materials and appliances are often left unsecured.
