LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Nothing can replace the loss of a loved one, but the family of fallen Firefighter Trevor Brown has one less worry thanks to a foundation.

On Veterans Day, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced it would pay off the mortgage or provide mortgage-free homes to the surviving families of fallen first responders and military. One of those families was Brown's wife, Laura, and their three children.

Trevor Brown, a 45-year-old firefighter with the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, was killed in a Sterling home explosion on Feb. 16. Brown was a firefighter with the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System since 2016 and is survived by his wife and three children.

Most of the families the foundation is helping are linked to military service members who died. Three recipients, including Brown's are the families of fallen first responders.

"As these families grieve the tremendous loss of a husband and father, I know being able to stay in the homes they shared can bring some peace of mind, and stability to their lives," said Frank Siller, Tunnel to Towers' CEO and chairman.

The foundation dates back to the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The foundation's goal is to provide mortgage-free homes for Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children. It also works to provide specially-adapted smart homes for injured veterans and first responders and seeks to end veteran homelessness.
