Park On Loudoun Water Reservoir Property To Open To Public In Ashburn

A long-awaited public park at Loudoun Water's 300-acre reservoir will open later in October.

ASHBURN, VA — A long-awaited park on a reservoir property in Ashburn is ready to open to the public later in October.

Reservoir Park, a partnership between Loudoun Water and NOVA Parks, will open on Oct. 21 at 22211 Water Vista Drive, Ashburn, VA. The park is situated on the site of Loudoun Water's 300-acre Beaverdam Reservoir, which is a source of drinking water.

"Great things come from partnerships. Reservoir Park at Beaverdam Reservoir is the culmination of a multi-year partnership between Loudoun Water and NOVA Parks," said NOVA Parks chairman Sean Kumar in a statement. "The end result is one of the best parks in the region that will serve people for generations to come. As a park built around a large lake, Reservoir Park embodies water conservation, nature, and recreation."

Construction of the new park began in fall 2022. Located on the southeast side of Beaverdam Reservoir, the park includes a welcome center, crew facility, boat rental facility, several picnic pavilions, trails, waterfront boardwalks, a bridge, site utilities and a restroom building. Educational exhibits are part of the park to inform the public about source water protection. Boat rentals will be available starting on Oct. 26-27. Visitors may launch their own boats through the end of the season.

"We are extremely proud of the joint efforts that made Reservoir Park a reality," said Loudoun Water Board chair Terry Allen. "The unique partnership between Loudoun Water and NOVA Parks is a model for how two public agencies can come together and create something special for the community. What an amazing way to highlight the connections between source water protection, ecological health, and recreation."

While construction halted recreation at Beaverdam Reservoir until April 2024, the public could again access the reservoir via the Mount Hope Road parking area. Fishing and non-motorized boating are permitted via Mount Hope Road. Until Reservoir Park opens to the public, trail access open in all areas but the southeast part of the property.

Because Beaverdam Reservoir is a public drinking water source, only non-motorized boats like kayaks, canoes, hand-carried boats, and stand-up paddleboards or small electric motors are allowed.
