Sterling Woman Killed In Fatal 2-Vehicle Crash On I-66: UPDATE

UPDATE: The victim killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 66 near Centreville early Tuesday has been identified: Virginia State Police.

CENTREVILLE, VA—The woman killed early Tuesday, May 21, in a two-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 66 at the 5o-mile marker in Fairfax County has been identified as Randi L. Cockerille, 25, of Sterling, Virginia State Police said Wednesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck's driver, a 35-year-old Iowa man, wasn't injured.

Around 1:55 a.m., police were dispatched to the scene for a reported crash. They found that a flatbed tractor-trailer was parked on the right shoulder on the I-66 with no lights on and the driver asleep in the cab. A 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt ran into the back of the truck, causing a minor fire inside the car. The flames were doused with a trooper's fire extinguisher.

The crash remains under investigation. Traffic was backed up for several miles during the morning commute, according to WRC.
