Subramanyam, Clancy Face Off In 10th Congressional District Race To Replace Wexton

Two candidates are on the ballot Nov. 5 to determine a successor to retiring Rep. Jennifer Wexton in the 10th Congressional District.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — As Democratic Rep. Jennifer Wexton steps back from Congress, a successor will be named in the 10th Congressional District general election on Nov. 5, 2024.

Wexton, 56, previously announced she would not seek re-election due to her Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy diagnosis, which is a severe form of Parkinson's disease.

The candidates who advanced from the primaries are Democrat Suhas Subramanyam and Republican Mike Clancy. Subramanyam is a current Virginia state senator representing part of Loudoun County, while Clancy has been a lawyer and business executive.

Virginia's 10th Congressional District covers all of Loudoun County, the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, Fauquier County, Rappahanock County and parts of Prince William and Fairfax counties. The district is labeled as competitive by the Virginia Public Access Project.

Subramanyam has outlined campaign priorities like protecting abortion rights, gun safety restrictions, health care access and affordability, environmental protection and more.

Clancy's priorities include addressing inflation and boosting the economy, addressing border security, fully funding law enforcement, supporting gun owner rights and more.

Loudoun Now covered a recent debate between Subramanyam and Clancy, which covered issues like the economy, immigration, affordable housing, transportation and energy.

Along with the 10th Congressional District race, voters will have the U.S. Senate between Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine and Republican Hung Cao, president and a Virginia constitutional amendment on the ballot. Select areas have local races and additional ballot measures.

Early voting began on Sept. 20 and will continue until Nov. 2. The deadline to request a mail-in ballot will be 5 p.m. on Oct. 25. Completed ballots must be returned to the voter's local elections office by 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 or postmarked by Nov. 5 and received in the office by noon on Nov. 8.

The deadline for voter registration or updating your address is Oct. 15, but same-day registrations with a provisional ballot will be accepted through Election Day. For Election Day voting, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5. An acceptable form of ID is required to vote in person.
