Virginia Lottery Win Lessens Furlough Sting For Ashburn Woman

ASHBURN, VA—A woman whose husband has been furloughed in the government shutdown need not fret—at least for now. That's because Ashburn resident Carrie Walls won the top prize in Virginia Lottery's "Ford Expedition Plus $100K" promotion.

"I cried," she told lottery officials Friday when she picked up her keys and cash at Koons Sterling Ford. "I couldn't believe it." Losing scratch-off tickets could be entered in the drawing, and Walls did exactly that. Come the Dec. 4 drawing, her ticket was drawn from more than 554,000 entries.
