Weekend Bluegrass Concert Series: The Bankesters will perform at Holy Cross Lutheran Church's Weekend Bluegrass Concert Series Friday night. The Bankesters are a family bluegrass band signed to Compass Records. 

Try a Taste of Summer: Willowsford Farm will be producing its own tomato sauce and needs the community's help choosing a recipe! Stop by the Farm Stand Saturday to sample three delicious tomato sauces cooked up by our Culinary Director and Chef Extraordinaire, Bonnie Moore, and vote for your favorite. The winning recipe will be used for the inaugural bottling and on sale come September. 

Open Auditions for Stage Coach Theatre Productions: StageCoach Theatre Company will host open auditions for thespians age 13 and over to try out for its upcoming productions. The company is looking for actors for its children's productions, cabaret, and dinner theatre.

Adopt a Furry Friend: The Loudoun County Animal Shelteris celebrating summer with the Cat’s Meow Luau adoption promotion. Now through August 21, 2013, all cats adopted from the Loudoun County Animal Shelter will be spayed or neutered for free. That means you can adopt kittens under 6 months for $40, cats aged 6 months to 7 years for $20, and all cats over 7 years of age will only be $10.

School starts in a little under six weeks, so you’ve got some time – but you might want to consider doing your back-to-school shopping this coming weekend, Friday to Sunday, Aug. 2-4. Why? It’s Virginia’s August Sales Tax Holiday on School Supplies and Clothing. During this three-day period, purchases of qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item, will be exempt from sales tax, thanks to the folks at the Virginia Department of Taxation. Some retailers are choosing to offer tax breaks on additional items as well to lure in shoppers, so you could score yourself some good deals on lots of shopping this weekend.
