What's Open, Closed For July 4 Holiday In Ashburn, Loudoun County

The Independence Day holiday will bring closures and various fireworks events to the region.

ASHBURN, VA — Americans will celebrate Independence Day with parades, barbecues, fireworks and other festivities. Many services will be closed or adjusted for the holiday.

The July 4 holiday falls on a Friday, so many workers will have a three-day weekend. Local government offices and others will close for the holiday, while transit and select other services will run on a modified schedule.

Here are the closures to know around Ashburn and the rest of Loudoun County:

Loudoun County government offices: Closed on Friday, July 4.

Loudoun County Public Schools: Schools are closed for the summer. July 4 is a holiday for all LCPS staff.

Community centers and senior centers: Community centers, senior centers and adult day centers are closed on July 4.

Courts: Loudoun County courts will be closed on July 4.

Department of Motor Vehicles: Virginia DMV offices are closed on July 4, and some services are available online at dmv.virginia.gov.

Libraries: Loudoun County Public Library locations are closed on July 4. Services will resume at 9:30 a.m. on July 5.

Loudoun County Transit: Service will not be provided on July 4.

Metro: On July 4, Metrorail will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. During the afternoon, Metro will increase service to rush hour levels to get riders to July 4 events. Free fares will be offered after 5 p.m., and parking will be free all day. Metrobus will run on a Sunday schedule. Those heading to fireworks on the National Mall are encouraged to use stations other than Smithsonian, such as Metro Center, Foggy Bottom, Federal Triangle, Archives, Gallery Place, Judiciary Square , Union Station, L’Enfant Plaza, Capitol South and Federal Center SW. Outdoor pools: Lovettsville Community Pool will from 12 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on July 4. The Franklin Park Pool and splash pad will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4. The splash pad at Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park will have regular hours. Volcano Island Waterpark is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. AV Symington Aquatic Center is closed on July 4.

Parks and recreation: Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services administrative offices, and the Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center will be closed on July 4. The Nature Center at Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park and the Visitor Center at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve are open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Claude Moore Park Visitor Center is closed to prepare for Claude Moore Park Fourth Fest. The Round Hill Aquatic Center will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on July 4. Park grounds, including trails, gardens, playgrounds, off-leash areas, skate parks, courts, and fields are open from dawn to dusk.

Post offices: Closed on July 4.

Recreation centers: The Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center and the Dulles South Recreation and Community Center will be open from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. on July 4 (Kid Kare closed at 12 p.m. and there is no child care).

Trash and recycling: Residents with private service should contact their hauler for any changes. The Loudoun County Landfill is closed on July 4. Town of Leesburg will not have collections on July 5. Collections provided on Saturday will include southeast, except Meadowbrook, and downtown commercial customers.
