What's Open, Closed On New Year's Day 2026 In Ashburn, Loudoun County
Various services will have changes or closures for the New Year's Day, which follows various New Year's Eve events.
ASHBURN, VA — Ashburn and Loudoun County residents will head into the new year starting with a holiday, prompting closures and schedule changes affecting government offices, schools, transit and other services.

Loudoun County government offices: Closed on Jan. 1.
Loudoun County Public Schools: Closed from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2.

ABC Stores: Virginia ABC stores will close at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 1.
Courts: Loudoun County courts are closed Jan. 1.
Department of Motor Vehicles: Virginia DMV locations will be closed on Jan. 1.
Libraries: Loudoun County Public Library locations are closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
Loudoun County Transit: Commuter Bus Service, Local Bus Service, the Loudoun County Courthouse Shuttle, Paratransit Bus Service, and Transit On Demand will not run on Jan. 1.
Metro: Metro will have weekday service from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 and weekend late night service from 6 a.m. to midnight. Fares will be free from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Dec. 31.
Parks and recreation: Recreation centers will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 1, with no Kid Kare or child care. The Round Hill Indoor Aquatic Center will close at noon on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1. Community centers will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1. Franklin Park Arts Center, all senior centers and adult day centers will be closed on Jan. 1. Park grounds, including Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park Nature Center and the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve, Claude Moore Park Visitor Centers, trails, gardens, playgrounds, off-leash areas, skate parks, and courts, are open to from dawn to dusk. Park offices are closed on Jan. 1.
Post offices: Closed on Jan. 1.
Trash and recycling: If you have a private trash collector, check with them for any schedule changes. The Loudoun County Landfill is closed on Jan. 1.
