- Blacksburg Police Department has partnered with Virginia Tech's Dr. Stephanie Smith to develop a social media platform. The decision comes from a need to increase awareness of social concerns in the community. As part of the social media campaign, the department will publish posts created by Dr. Smith's students. - New in Christiansburg: reduced vet fees for eligible pet adopters. Mountain View Humane, located down the road in Christiansburg, has announced a partnership with Inmate Family Assistance of the New River Valley to help reduce veterinary services fees for eligible families. The financial assistance will provide funds to reduce the overall costs for spaying and neutering dogs and cats, vaccines, microchipping, flea and tick treatments, and umbilical hernia repairs. - Early yesterday morning, a massive fire completely destroyed a home in nearby Salem, resulting in a total loss of property. Crews shut down Wildwood Road as they quelled the fire and searched for the pet cat, who was later found safe. The owner and their dog were unharmed. (WDBJ)
