📰 News we're reading

1. Blacksburg Transit adjusts future routes due to electric bus recall (wfxrtv.com) — Starting January 18, 2026, Blacksburg Transit riders will see reduced weekday bus frequency on several routes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. because electric bus recalls have cut battery capacity, especially in cold weather. Service after 7 p.m. and on weekends will stay the same, and BT hopes to restore full service in the spring as conditions improve.

2. New wrestling coach chosen at BHS (montcova.com) — Blacksburg High School has tapped Dominic Williams as its new wrestling coach, aiming to revitalize a program that had struggled to find leadership. Williams, who also helps coach Blacksburg varsity football and teaches in Christiansburg, says he wants wrestlers to grow as athletes and people through competitive tournaments, rigorous practices, and steady week-to-week improvement.

3. Kark, Warren Ronald (montcova.com) — Longtime Virginia Tech architect and professor emeritus Warren Ronald Kark, whose work helped shape the Blacksburg campus, has died at age 88. His family asks that anyone wishing to honor him consider donating to the Hahn Horticulture Garden at Virginia Tech, with gifts mailed to the university’s Prices Fork Road address in Blacksburg.

4. Members of this library can borrow more than 1,000 tools (wvtf.org) — A local group in Blacksburg, working through the New River Time Bank, is laying the groundwork for a community tool library that could soon let residents borrow everything from ladders to power tools. They’re drawing inspiration from successful tool libraries in Charlottesville, Chesapeake, and Arlington that help neighbors share rarely used equipment, save money, and cut down on clutter while building community connections.
